Article Summary

Our World is vast and we as humans have been blessed by a gift of duality so that we won’t have to take care of everything alone. The entire World is an ecosystem where we too play a part. Moreover, human race has an ecosystem of its own.

There are two human sexes that came to being ~ 6 million years ago that mutually compliment each other [0]. One is able to provide a sense of safety and constant action while the other can nurture and provide nutrients for growth. Yes, I am talking about physiological males and females.

Modern struggle.

Ready? I won't sugarcoat it.

Nowadays, there is a clear lack of understanding what is a primal function of female nature and what is that of male nature. While some might argue that our inborn sex doesn't determine our life, from a metaphysical point of view, it does.

In the past century, there has been a major increase in levels of anxiety, depression and burnout observed in society. A study from UK reports that 77% of men have suffered common symptoms of mental health conditions [1]. Other studies show that 30-40% of women are estimated to be affected by such menstrual disorders as PCOS, endometriosis and Dysmenorrhea [2], [3]. Some argue that this is wholly attributed to fast-paced technological advancement. However, what if we too have simply forgotten our nature?
And here is what we are doing:
Female hormonal/energy cycle lasts 28 days - Male hormonal/energy cycle lasts 24 hours.
  • Females work 9-5 routine jobs every day of the month with no exception
  • Females try to take on positions that require routine labour
  • Females refuse help because they want to be more independent, consequently, men have no one to care for (and its part of what makes male nature emotionally fulfilled)
  • People spend the day sitting and do physical activities only in the evening (when energy is lowest)

Male Hormonal Cycle - 24 hour Cycle

Males are predominantly ruled by masculine energy (it has a feminine side too!). Masculine energy is conventionally related to the sun, action, analytical thinking and problem-solving. It takes 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds for the Earth to rotate with respect to the Sun and it is what we commonly know as 1 day. A day where we sleep at night to recharge our batteries, wake up in the morning full of energy (if we are in good health), work, communicate, do the chores, rest up in the afternoon as our energy levels gradually go down towards the night.
What’s interesting, research shows that testosterone - male hormone, levels are highest in the morning between 7 am and 10 am. The levels follow a straightforward pattern called circadian rhythm - the sleep schedule rhythm.

Below you can see a qualitative graph showing male and female hormonal cycles

This is exactly what makes males able to perform the same actions every day. Historically, males went to hunt and provide resources for the family to keep everyone full and safe during the day and rested in the afternoon when females made sure that everyone is fed. Hence, nature granted them the gift of being able to make sure that they can do this on the daily basis.
What about female though? Aren’t they the same humans?

Female Hormonal Cycle - 28 Day Cycle

First of all, females have FOUR hormones involved in their energy cycle… To make it even more spicy, hormones presence varies not in 24 hours but in 28 days! A 2800% increase in the duration (just so you grasp the significance of the difference).
Likewise, females are predominantly ruled by feminine energy. Feminine energy is connected to the Moon, emotions, feelings, care, nurturing, intuition and rest. Funnily enough, the Moon cycle actually lasts 28 days on average (do you see the pattern?). The cycle starts with the New Moon - a time when the night is the darkest and energy is at its lowest - likewise during female menstrual phase. Moon slowly starts to grow (females start to produce follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)) until it reaches the Full Moon - the energy peak (ovulation period when progesterone - the fertility hormone is at its highest). Afterwards, the Moon starts to shrink once again (the luteal phase of the female cycle) until it is time for a New Moon again.

The answer is quite obvious. Females were never intended to perform the same tasks on a daily basis. And denying it won’t help nor females nor males. Our bodies are here to help us. Imagine what we could do if we actually align our lives with our energy cycles.

Signs that you are not aligned with your hormonal cycle:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Burnout
  • Feeling like you are not living the right life
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • PMS, heavy menstrual pains
  • Low libido
  • Erection problems
  • Infertility
Do you recognize yourself in any of these?

How to align your life with your hormonal cycle?

Worry not! The first step is already done. Knowing about the healthy energy cycle is already an upper hand. What is left is to introduce small lifestyle shifts that are going to accommodate your unique energy cycle.

6 Ways to balance male hormonal cycle:

  • Create a daily routine to follow (include bedtimes, daily planning, workout, work times, etc.)
  • Set time for weekly planning
  • Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day
  • Prioritise workouts in the morning
  • Reduce level of physical activity in the evenings
  • Do 5-10 minutes of morning exercise (stretch, push-ups, squats, tun, etc.)

6 Ways to balance female hormonal cycle:

  • Minimise level of activity during menstrual phase (prioritise rest)
  • Plan important events during the ovulation period
  • Eat healthy nourishing foods in the luteal phase (i.e. starchy vegetables, avocado, wholegrains, lentils)
  • Schedule important meetings from 6th to 15th day of your cycle
  • Do cardio, weight-lifting and active sports during follicular phase (6-15 day)
  • Do yoga, pilates, tai chi during the luteal phase (15-28 day)

Life is all about our behaviour and choices that we make on daily basis. Our mental and physical health is a summation of things we do and eat on a daily basis. Nonetheless, it's okay if you didn't go to sleep at the same time on Saturday or if you went out to party on your period. It's the predominant habits that count. And I am quite sure that you can make yours match your Highest Self.

What's now?

Consider: How aligned do you feel with your energy cycle? What small shifts do you feel like implementing in your life this week? Did you learn anything that particularly stood out to you?
